Sami Michell wins 4 more State Finals titles,
captures overall 2nd place team trophy
Congratulations to Reed City High School senior Sami
Michell who won 4 individual event titles at the MHSAA Track & Field
State Finals yesterday on Saturday, June 1, 2013.
Sami made history by winning back-to-back individual state titles
in all 4 of the events she entered at the Girls Lower Peninsula Track
and Field State Championships. She also has set a new record for
all-time state titles (12) ever achieved by any individual athlete.
Prior to Sami winning four events last year in 2012, the last girl to
ever win four events at Finals was Mason County Easternís Maria Shoup,
who did so at the 1979 Class D meet with victories in the 100 hurdles,
200 hurdles, 800 and long jump.
To finish our her high school State Finals, Michell won the 300 meter
hurdles and holds the all-class and all-division state record in the 300
meter hurdles which she set in 2012, breaking a state record held since
1984. She also won the 100 meter hurdles (and owns the state record in
the 100 meter hurdles for Division 3); and won the long jump (and holds
the Division 3 state record in the long jump). Toppnig off her
record-setting performance for the day, Sami won the 200 meter run
In winning back-to-back titles in four events, Sami Michell was able
to capture an overall 2nd Place finish for the Girl's Division 3 Track &
Field Team title for Reed City High School to add a trophy to go
with all of her State Final medals!
We look forward to seeing Sami continue her phenomenal Track & Field
career at the University of Michigan, where she has accepted a
scholarship. Congrats, Sami !
